Tour Continues - Crossing the Country
Adare
We stopped at Adare, a beautiful village which still has some thatch-roofed cottages, on our way to the Rock of Cashel.

Rock of Cashel
The Rock of Cashel is considered the spiritual heart of Ireland because St Patrick stopped here about 1500 years ago. The remains of the castle and cathedral overlook the Plain of Tipperary.

Kilkenny
Since Kilkenny Castle’s 13th century start, it has been rebuilt and extended many times. A Victorian influence can be seen today.

Glendalough
The following misty morning we journeyed to Glendalough, the ancient monastic settlement founded by St Kevin in the 6th century. It was considered a site of religious learning for several centuries afterwards. The Round Tower, built about 1000 years ago, still stands.

Kilmainham Gaol
Many fighters for Irish independence, (notably in the 1798 rebellion, the 1916 Easter Rising, the Anglo-Irish War and the Irish Civil War) were held here. Fourteen of those who led the 1916 Easter Rising were executed in the Stonebreaker’s yard.
